Common questions about monthly mobile plans
General answers to the questions we're asked most often. For anything specific to your situation, give us a call.
Is Moorfield Mobile a network operator?
No. Moorfield Mobile is an independent comparison and advisory service. We're not a mobile network, and we don't sell airtime directly. Our role is to help you understand plan types and put you in touch with an advisor by phone.
Do you charge for a call?
Calling us costs whatever your own phone plan charges for standard UK calls. We don't add any premium-rate charge on top.
Can I switch providers and keep my number?
In the UK you can normally keep your mobile number when switching provider, using a process generally known as porting. Your existing provider gives you a short code (a PAC) to pass to the new provider.
What's the difference between a PAC and a STAC?
A PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) lets you move your number to a new provider. A STAC (Service Termination Authorisation Code) is used if you want to leave a contract without keeping the number with a new provider.
Will I be asked to fill in a form?
No. We handle everything over the phone rather than through online forms, so there's no form to fill in on this site.
How do I know how much data I actually need?
Check your current phone's built-in data usage settings, which show your average monthly use. That figure is usually the best starting point for sizing a new plan.
What happens at the end of a fixed-term contract?
Once a fixed term ends, most providers move you to a rolling monthly arrangement at the same or a similar price unless you actively switch or renegotiate. It's worth reviewing your plan when the term is up.
Do unlimited data plans have any limits at all?
Many so-called unlimited plans include a fair-use policy, which can reduce speeds after an unusually high amount of use in a month. It's worth asking specifically what the fair-use threshold is.
